Glass Website TemplateWhile all in all this fashion month may have seemed a little heavy, there was still room for some adornment this season with the fall 2020 hair accessory trends. Surprisingly, there were a ton of jeweled hair accessories for fall 2020, from brooches to headbands to even just little jewels dispersed through the hair. On the less luxurious side, bandanas, chords, and hair scarves had their own subtle impact. Whatever your style, we think you’ll find something to like in the fall/ winter 2020-2021 hair accessory trends.

1.Ribbons and Scarves

There is no better way to adorn a low-slung ponytail (which was the most common hairstyle on the run ways by a long shot) than a subtle length of ribbon. This is one of those fall/ winter 2020-2021 hair accessory trends that come without any rules – just find a length of ribbon that you like, and tie it around the base of your ponytail to hide your hair tie.

The satin ribbons used at Brandon Maxwell were matched to outfits and tied up in such a way so that each end draped off to the side of the ponytail. For Richard Quinn, Sam McKnight tied off messy folded buns with a length of thin, velvet ribbon.

Lastly, at Dolce & Gabbana, knitted scarves were styled a little bit different, as they were wrapped around the head like a winter headband or, in some cases, tied around an updo.

2.Bows

Bows added a bourgeois touch to many of the hairstyles this season, and also stood out to us as one of the more feminine fall/ winter 2020 hair accessory trends.

The bows at Chanel will probably have the biggest impact on coming styling choices. They enhanced lightly voluminous semi-updos, helping to tie the look together with their romantic touch.

The bows at Cynthia Rowley were black and oversized, so instead of looking delicate, they added a funky, ‘80s-inspired touch to side-swept hair. Finally, at Giambattista Valli, thin black cords and ribbons were tied into bows right atop of the models’ heads, giving a girlish feel to slicked-back hair.

3.Floral Hairpins and Brooches

Hair brooches and pins are great for adding just a hint of shine to the hair in a playful and youthful way that isn’t childish. For the fall 2020 hair accessory trends, most of the hair brooches we saw had floral designs (like the fall 2020 hats), perhaps as a sign of longing for spring.

The brooches at Miu Miu were designed to look like large tropical flowers and even placed right above the ear. However, the twist was that they came in non-floral colors like black with metallic detailing.

Floral hairpins at Tom Ford also had a bit of a tropical vibe. They were secured a little higher than at Miu Miu, right over the forehead and above the left ear. The leaves were made of feathers colored to look metallic, so from a distance, they looked like they were made of gold.

Finally, at Giambattista Valli, there was a “more is more” approach with many models wearing two large, jewel-encrusted flower-shaped brooches in addition to hair bows.

4.Dispersed Jewels

For a night out or a fancy party, none of the other fall 2020 hair accessories compare to the glamour that dispersed jewels can impart to the hair. As you turn your head, they will catch in the light, giving an ethereal effect to your look, just like the bejeweled nails of fall.

At Jonathan Cohen, large pearl pins lined the braids of models with cornrows, like pretty, jeweled polka dots. Tiny jewels were a little more delicate at Alice + Olivia, where they were magically dispersed through loose hair.

Finally, the most dramatic use of jewels was at Ashish, where pendants were hung from the braids used to create a very elaborate updo.

5.Notable Headbands

Headbands are a runway signature for a lot of designers, and as part of the fall 2020 hair accessories, a lot of them stood out to us as particularly attention-grabbing.

Most of the headbands were more luxurious, like the crown-like metal ones worn at Prada, or the heavily jeweled and beaded ones that models wore at Simone Rocha and Erdem.

Headbands at Lanvin, on the other hand, seemed to be helmet-inspired, made of thick, smooth leather and covering nearly the entirety of the front half of the head, including the ears.
